If you’re looking to escape Alanya’s sweltering city heat for an afternoon, the sleepy village of Sapadere makes a popular picnic spot. The Sapadere Kanyonu itself, just outside the village, is a 750m canyon that reaches heights of 400m, winding through rocky coves, shallow rock pools and gushing waterfalls, before opening Out into a sizeable pool, where the water remains cool even in summer. A network of wood and steel walkways has been erected, making it an easy stroll, and there’s a café-restaurant on site.

If you have time, head back to the village to take a peek at the watermill, or visit the small silk factory, lo watch the villagers raising silkworms and spinning silk threads.
