Alanya has a low crime rate a d a safe index of 84.5%. However, take standard personal security precaution as you would in any other city you are visiting.

Two years earlier, it had been the sixth most popular tourist destination in the world, famed for its beaches, weather and food, and attracting 42 million foreign tourists every year. By 2016, that had almost halved to 24 million.

But the market began to rebound in 2017, and travel agents this year reported a 66 per cent boost in bookings to the country from the UK over the past 12 months. Increased interest from tourists again Airlines have also moved to increase their seat capacity to the country – Thomas Cook reports Antalya in Turkey is now its most served airport from the UK, and runs up to 57 flights per week during peak periods.

Between the beaches and warm sun of the Mediterranean, Alanya, Turkey, is a great place to get away and relax. Even with all the wonderful sights, however, be sure you are aware of the warnings and dangers that come with traveling to Alanya.

Most of Turkey safe

But it gives most of the country a green label, indicating travel is safe. The FCO does however continue to advise against all travel to within 10km (six miles) of the border with Syria, and to the city of Diyarbakir (75 miles from the Syrian border and 690 miles from Antalya). Eastern Turkey is considered the most unstable part of the country.

As recently as  June 2018, the British foreign office was urging travellers to stay away from crowds, due to demonstrations expected around the presidential and parliamentary elections. President Erdogan re-secured his seat and declared the country’s state of emergency over.

Most of the past attacks have taken place in the south and east of the country, as well as Istanbul and Ankara, largely away from the western coastline that’s popular with tourists.

Extra security restrictions on Turkish flights to the UK have now also largely been lifted – particularly those from Istanbul, Antalya, Bodrum and Izmir.
